ABOUT MINDS MATTER

Our vision: To promote wellness among youth in Hawaii by humanizing mental health and destigmatizing seeking help.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 1 in 5 youth, ages 13-18, have experienced a severe mental disorder. Mental health issues are the third most common cause of hospitalization in the US.

Our statement of action is Minds Matter: A Mental Health Art Exhibition, which we hope will make mental health a more accessible and better-understood topic. We hope Minds Matter will serve as an empowering force to support impactful art by giving students a chance to express themselves and share their stories.

We accepted art pieces from middle- to high-school students across O'ahu; we have received numerous photography, painting, drawing, and digital artworks. Raffle prize winners have been chosen and will receive gift cards from Waimea Valley and Wet’n’Wild Hawaii!

Minds Matter will be displayed at the Hawaii State Public Library for the whole month of March. We kicked off with a reception day on Saturday, March 2, 2019, from 1:30 - 4:00 pm with guest speakers and fun activities. Be sure to visit for beautiful and impactful art!

For those that did, we hope you enjoyed submitting a piece for Minds Matter as much as we’ve enjoyed producing it. Take a look through the site to learn more, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions or comments.
